The Grandfather Mountain Highland Games take place over the second full weekend in July every year. The venue is MacRae Meadows on Grandfather Mountain near Linville, North Carolina. This four-day Scottish festival is North America’s largest gathering of Scottish Clans. Because of rain this year, final attendance numbers will probably be down from around 46,000 in 2025. The colorful tartans, thrilling athletic competitions, delicious food, and lively Celtic music are truly a sight to behold.  

The Highland Games weekend is a highlight of my year. I love exploring with my camera, reconnecting with old friends, and soaking up the vibrant atmosphere. Here are some of my favorite images from the 2026 event. Enjoy!
