Friendly Butterfly
On a hot July day, I stepped outside the studio and something landed on my shoulder. At first, I thought it might be an angry wasp because I’d seen a few. Rather, it turned out to be a friendly butterfly . . .

The Carolina Renaissance Festival 2019 is a full day of entertainment and pageantry as history comes alive with hundreds of costumed characters re-creating a 16th Century European Marketplace. TTC Combined Test & Jumper Show – Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019, at Thoroughbred Training Center(TTC). Photos are posted!
I frequently check with the Secretary Stand during a horse show. They inform me of sign-ups and other useful information. So, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Lynne and Angela who ensure that TTC shows run smoothly. They always impress me as they go about their business . . .

Hillcrest Farms hosted an HT/CT/D show on September 14, 2019. Thank you, Janet and Dan, for another enjoyable and well-patronized event. Incidentally, I’m sure many visitors appreciated the cooler weather early in the day. In contrast, as I write this, the forecast for the next 10 days going into October, is all upper-80’s and 90’s. So much for cooler days . . .

TTC hosted a Dressage, Combined Test and Jumper show on 08/17/2019. To begin with, the weather forecast called for an overcast and relatively comfortable morning. But later on, conditions were supposed to clear and become much hotter. Consequently, a cut-off time was set for 2 pm. As expected, the riders were able to complete the Combined Test portion and the first half of the Jumper show before the cut-off . . .

The Torchlight Ceremony marking the opening of the 2019 Grandfather Mountain Highland Games was held on Thursday evening. The venue was MacRae Meadows, beside the entrance to Grandfather Mountain. . .

Sometimes I find an arena course difficult to photograph because of the placement and angles of the jumps in relation to the sun. Consequently, I have to move around a lot, to avoid harsh shadows or to get a good view of the various jumps as the rider proceeds around the course. This event was different. Not only because of soft light from the scattered cloudy weather, but also the placement of jumps allowed me to stand almost in one spot to capture images at four or five different jumps . . .
